Science for Kids - Keeping Them Interested

Are your children naturally curious? Do they wonder how things work? Do they marvel at the stars and moon? Are they the hands-on type that are always taking things apart and putting them back together? To some parents, such habits may seem annoying, but kids who show a keen interest in acquiring scientific knowledge early in life eventually become intelligent, inquisitive teens and adults who don't take a simple "yes" or "no" for an answer. Their curious minds will take them far!Science for kids can be wonderfully fascinating! What child doesn't love performing experiments or building models during science class or for the school science fair? Parents should remember, however, that science doesn't have to be limited to the school classroom, and that at-home science activities can go a long way in keeping a child interested in the world around him. Truth is, kids can enjoy science just about anywhere, as long as parents are eager to guide.

Science at HomeThe National Science Foundation says that parents are their kid's first science teachers. They also point out that you don't need to be an expert in the subject because science for kids is everywhere, including inside your home and out in your backyard. You need only point out the wonders of everyday science to your kids to keep them interested.

Remember, science is all about observing, exploring, and testing, and even the youngest children can be involved in these three tasks. Here are a few examples of everyday science-related activities you can enjoy with your child.

- Go for a walk and take along a magnifying glass. Stop to pick up some interesting natural objects along the way such as flowers, a few blades of grass, rocks or stones, and even insects. Look at them with the magnifying glass and allow your child to tell you what they see. This teaches them to be good observers. If you find an object or creature that really intrigues your child, look it up on the internet or in a book when you return home and gather more information. Or better yet, look at the object under a microscope.

- Let your child help you cook. All sorts of wonderful scientific processes happen at the stove! Talk about boiling water, melting butter, caramelization, or how mixtures change when they are baked. These things may be commonplace to you, but to a child, they're fascinating!

- Track the phases of the moon. Look for the constellations that appear during various seasons. Viewing the sky is an easy way to introduce the study of astronomy. A simple, inexpensive telescope further enhances this type of science for kids.

- Does your child have a favorite sport or activity? If it's baseball, talk about pitching and speed. If it's cycling, skateboarding, or roller blading, explore how the wheels on their vehicle turn. If it's football, find out why the ball is shaped that way. How about dancing? Dancers can learn about why stretching is important before dancing and about keeping their body conditioned. The possibilities are endless!- Build something! Science for kids should involve creativity. Consider making silly putty or play dough, build a periscopeFree Articles, construct a model of the solar system.

You don't need to wait until the annual school science fair to have fun with science. Just a few spare minutes can keep your child interested for a lifetime.

Free article marketing: Your template for success
 Posted by: richie ghaniani | 08/09 2008, 19:57

 Moe Tamani

Free Article marketing is a great way to build attention to your business. You write free articles for distribution on any number of internet directories. People choose your articles from those directories as free content on their websites. You and your business gain from exposure over the world-wide-web. So, how do you do it?

Writing free articles is relatively easy, if you follow some simple rules. Here is a template to help get you started.

  1. Carefully read your free content directories guidelines before and after you write your article to ensure you are following the rules.
  1. Consider what keywords internet users will use to find articles like yours. This is very important as you will be using them a lot in your article.
  1.  In writing your headline, follow this formula: “Keyword: Why reader should read this”.  This text to the right of the colon could be written in various ways: a list (Seven reasons to hire a financial planner); dos and don’ts (Do’s and Don’ts to planning your vacation); or ask a question (Do you know this secret to financial freedom?). These are all great ways to tease the reader into your article.  Try to use the words “you or your” in the headline also.
  1. Always start your article with your keyword or a close variation of it.  This will increase your article’s ranking in the various search engines. Also, be sure the opening paragraph (or the lead) reflects what you wrote in your headline. Like the headline, the lead should follow this formula: Keyword. What the reader will the reader learn about the keyword from reading your article and why it’s important to them.
  1. The rest of the article should flesh out the opening paragraph. By following your headline, the body of the article could take a variety of forms: The numbered list and dos and don’ts are probably the easiest, both for you the writer and for the reader. Remember the reader is busy and just wants to get your information quickly and easily
  1. In the text, be sure to use your opening keyword several times, along with several related keywords, if they flow naturally into the article. Not only is this useful to keep your writing focused.  The use of many keywords is also essential for search term optimization, which is how web content is ranked on various search engines.

A search engine uses a web crawler to determine how much quality content is used. Using many keywords alerts the crawler that your article has a lot of useful information. However, don’t just load the article with keywords and not say anything. Your article must be useful to be effective in your article marketing campaign.

  1.  Keep your sentences and paragraphs short. As a general rule, readers are lazy. Believe it or not, a long paragraph can be daunting and your reader may just skip past it, missing valuable information.
  1. Be sure to include at least one link to your website within the article and perhaps links to other useful websites. Again, it assists in search engine optimization: An article is ranked more highly if it links to one or more other sites with useful information. When linking to your own site, it is better if your article links to a page with more information about the subject (such as another article), rather than just your business’ home page, but either is helpful.
  1. Finally, be sure there is another link to your website in your bio box. It is the whole reason you wrote this article in the first place: to drive people to your website. Your bio box should also contain your name, your area of expertise and contact information. It should also list a reason for readers to click the link to your website: For example, “Bob Smith is a business owner and expert in the field of kumquat research. Visit bobsmithsite.com for a special report on how kumquats benefit your health.”

By following these simple rules, your free article will get and keep your reader’s interest and entice them to visit your website. They are simple ways to get Article Marketing to work for you and your business.

Profit From Your Own E-Book
 Posted by: richie ghaniani | 08/09 2008, 19:54

 James Bradley

In today's ever changing online markets, viral marketing has become an extremely powerful way to promote and profit from your own, or any other, affiliate program. By providing your visitors or clients with free e-books, you can literally create an entire network of dedicated people who promote your business for free. There are some things to keep in mind to ensure that your e-book is optimized to earn you the most revenue.

First of all, you want your ebook to provide valuable content to its readers. Give them something that they can find useful, and odds are they will turn around and promote it to others who they feel could find the information useful as well. If you were to simply give users free e-books filled with sales pitches they would simply drag the file to the recycle bin and forget about it forever. By providing useful information to your readers you are not building your own credibility, but also captivating the readers interest. Impress your audience and they will be more likely to look into other products or services you are offering.

Creating your e-book is actually far simpler than you may think. There is no need for hundreds of pages you type all night long at your computer screen, in fact you can create a quality ebook in as little as 10-20 pages. Put some related articles, add some comments or tips, an intro and a conclusion. There is a lot of free information out there on the web, take a few minutes and use the information age to your advantage. If you see a lot of questions or articles on a particular topic, you can very easily create a quality e-book using the materials and resources you've got.

When designing your ebook there are a few options open to you. The files can be in the ".pdf" or ".exe" format, both have positives and negatives, PDF files are the most commonly used. Keep your layout clean and simple to follow. Moreover, the key to making your ebook a real success is including affiliate links and links to other companies or products you are promoting.

Inputting links from your own company and affiliate programs is where you are going to directly profit from providing your free ebook to others. Include relevant links to other products, other information sources, etc. Encourage your readers to pass the ebook along to others as a gift or as a bonus to one of their own websites/newsletters. The more your ebook gets around, the more exposure you'll receive, and ultimately the more revenue you'll generate.

You can create a viral e-book as well. This is such a popular method because you are allowing your readers to actually change some of the links to their own products and affiliate programs. This gives your audience huge added incentives to get your ebook out to as many others as they can. The trick is only allowing certain links to be changed and branding some of your own links permanently into the text to ensure that you are always getting exposure.

Now that you have designed your ebook, created the content, and filled it with important links; you must promote the ebook and get people reading it. There are so many ways to promote products and websites, and considering this is a Free ebook you are at an advantage. You could include the ebook or a link to your site in a newsletter, or in the signature of forum/article/blog posts, a webpage that is optimized, and so on. If you get positive feedback, ask permission to include that readers testimonial in your webpage or newsletter. Promoting is really going to come down to you, this is by no means a complete list, be creative.

It's clear to most internet users that anyone can profit from their own ebook. Think of how many offers on the web you have seen selling them on any topic for $10, $50, $100Article Submission, even $200? By providing a free ebook to your audience you can profit in so many ways residually. You have nothing to loose by offering a free ebook and so much to gain.

Ebook Promotion and Marketing Techniques - how to sell your ebook now!
 Posted by: richie ghaniani | 08/09 2008, 19:52

Create a website about the ebook

Andrew J. Ruzicho II and Eric E. Willison

Your primary means of promoting your ebook should be through a website built for that purpose and that purpose alone. In other words, the website should be built around your ebook and specifically designed to generate more sales of your ebook. Don't add the sale of your ebook to a website that was built for another purpose. Your ebook website is your home base or the hub to which all the spokes lead. With a solid hub in place, you can generate the spokes from several of the following promotional methods.

Promote your ebook in discussion forums of the same topic

Find discussion forums concerning the topic of your ebook. A friend and I created a classical guitar publication. I embarked on several means of promoting the product. On a whim, I started searching for classical guitar forums on the internet. I found several forums and posted messages in each about our product and where to find it. Of all the things I initially did to promote our product, posting in forums relating to the subject of the ebook was the most effective way to generate sales early on. The strength of posting in forums quickly fades as other forum threads bury yours but your thread will continue to generate some traffic to your website even after the initial burst has subsided. You don't wwant to wear out your welcome in forums either by continually posting advertisements of your product, but many forums will allow you to post your url with your signature. So if you can contribute to the forum in other ways, with each post you add, you will also include your web address to your ebook website for others to follow.

Sell your ebook in your ebay store

Offer your ebook for sale on ebay.com. If you have several ebooks for sale than open up an ebay store and add them all to your store inventory. Ebay is not the best way to sell ebooks but you can benefit from the added exposure. Consider selling your product fairly inexpensively on ebay and bundle it with a subscription to your product newsletter. Many ebook sellers do this in order to build a large mailing list in which they can promote other ebooks they have for sale to previous buyers. One other note about ebay. Your ebooks will get more exposure in a traditional auction rather than through your ebay store. One way to shortcut this, if you have many products, is to have an auction for one ebook. That auction page will also promote four of your other products in your store if you choose to cross promote them in that manner. By doing so, you get more bang for your auction buck without having to have separate auctions for each ebook.

Bundle your ebook with a monthly newsletter

Sell your product on your website and bundle it with a product newsletter. Or you can offer a means by which visitors to your site can sign up for your monthly newsletter. A monthy or bimonthly newsletter is a great way to keep your product(s) in the view of potential buyers and past purchasers. Past purchasers are valuable because they can also choose to buy your other ebooks and they can recommend your ebooks to others. A frequent reminder in the form of the newsletter often helps the referral process along.

I personally use constantcontact.com for my newsletters. As buyers buy my products, I add them to my subscription list. Constant Contact gives them the opportunity to opt out of the newsletter campaign at any time. It also allows readers to forward the newsletter to others. Constant Contact has several templates from which I can choose. It allows me to add links to my website. Its most useful feature is I can track who opens the newsletter, how many times they open it, what links they click on, what email addresses are no longer valid, and a number of other valuable statistics.

Over time, my subscription lists grows to a rather large number. If you have 5,000 subscribers and can write an engaging newsletter, you can almost guarantee a fair amount of sales every time the newsletter goes out. That's a lot of power when you can reach a huge amount of people at once.

Advertise your ebook using Google Adwords

Hopefully you have chosen a topic for your ebook that has a relatively low cost per click - perhaps around 20 cents per click or less. If you are selling an ebook for ten dollars then at 20 cents per click you will break even if you sell one book per every 50 clicks. Google Adwords offers conversion tracking so that you can determine what your advertising cost per sale is. You will need a better conversion rate than this but, as you can see, it's important to always be aware of how much money you have to spend to make a sale. Perhaps I should back up a little bit and explain how Google Adwords works.

Google.com is where web users go to find information on the web. In the not too recent past, Google came up with the idea of selling advertising on its search pages. If a web user types in the search words or key words, "ebook promotion," Google will theoretically return websites that, according to Google, are the most relevant matches for the key words, "ebook promotion." In addition to those organic results, Google now places paid results on the same page. Advertisers can have their ad placed next to the organic search results when the key words, "ebook promotion," are used as a search term in Google. The paid results are usually listed down the right hand side of the page and usually the first one or two results on the left hand side of the page are paid results. Advertisers pay Google when a web user like you or me clicks on their ad. If no one clicks on their ad then there is no charge. Where an advertiser shows up on the search results page depends on how much they have bid on the key words, "ebook promotion." Google later expanded the idea to allow related websites (those with content which relates to "ebook promotion" in this case) to display the advertising and offered those websites a cut of the pie.

If you decide to go this route, don't give up if your cost per click is high. Consider related key words or key phrases. Think out of the box. Oftentimes, you can find other key words that are more effective than the obvious choices for less money. Another strategy is to NOT go for the top paid ranking or even a top paid ranking within the first few results but to bid low on your keywords and concentrate on making an effective ad. I've done this in a number of situations and bought considerable traffic to my sites for less than a nickel per click. With a daily budget of $6.00Psychology Articles, I've bought as much as 150 visitors. If your product is $10 then a sale every 150 visitors results in a profit of $4.00. So consider the alternative strategy of making an effective ad if cost is a significant factor.

Choosing an eBook Compiler
 Posted by: richie ghaniani | 08/09 2008, 19:50

 Careece Chichester

There are many different compilers to chose from, butfirst, you need to know exactly what an ebook Compilerdoes. Here is the simple explanation:

An ebook compiler is a software program that convertseither text pages or HTML text into a singleexecutable file or an ebook.

If you or someone you hired has created a file withgraphics in HTML, you will need an HTML ebookCompiler. This type of compiler requires a workingknowledge of the HTML tag language. You can also usesoftware to do this for you, such as MicrosoftFrontPage or Macromedia Dreamweaver.

How do you choose an eBook Compiler?

There are a large number of ebook Compilers availableon the market, all with glowing sales copy and tekkielanguage. It can get very confusing and overwhelmingvery fast without some simple guidelines to help youfigure out which compiler is right for you.

Choosing an ebook Compiler depends on a number offactors:

1. How did you create your pages? Did you use HTML orPDF format? There are many more compilers availablefor HTML, but you can find some very good compilersthat will covert your PDF files into an ebook.

2. Consider how easy the program is to use and thethoroughness of the software's instruction manual. Itis absolutely necessary that the compiler you buy havean instructional manual, documentation, or online"wizards." If it doesn't, your chances of figuring outhow to correctly use the program are compromised, andthe time required doing so is going to be significant. Many manufacturers of compilers offer a free trialversion so you can play around with it and see if itsuits your needs. Download the trial version andascertain that it actually does what it claims to do.

3. Security features. If you plan to sell your ebook, check out the security features of the compilersoftware carefully. Security features should include:prevention of the reader from modifying text, accessonly to the pages you assign or by entering apassword, different ways of generating passwords suchas secure passwords, user-friendly, and openpasswords.

4. Supported scripting. Find out what scripts thesoftware supports. Scripting allows you to createspecial effects, customize menus, and create andmodify other user interactivity. Choose a compilerthat permits you to include graphics, search windows, hyperlinks, forms, surveys, etc.

5. Pricing. This is a factor that is not always easyto gauge. The highest priced compilers are notautomatically your best choice. Choose your compilerbased on the necessary requirements for your Ebook. That means you need to know exactly how you plan touse your Ebook and what functions you require.

Let's look at some of these factors in more detail.First of all, make sure you have the correct browserto run the compiler. The majority of HTML compilersuse Microsoft Internet Explorer or Netscape. Check outthe version that the compiler supports. Compilers thatrequire a browser will not run on a computer that doesnot have the required browser installed. However, there are ebook HTML compilers that don't require youto have any browser installed on your computer. Thesecompilers run on any Windows system.

If you choose a compiler that requires a browser, check to ascertain that the browser is installedcorrectly and that it is properly configured to thespecifications of the compiler. Check to see ifcertain functions are turned off or on, and make anyadjustments according to the compiler instructions.

Security is an essential element of any compiler, regardless of whether you plan to sell or give awayyour ebook. One of the main reasons for using acompiler is to prevent the reader from modifying thecontents. A secure compiler allows access only to thepages you want the user to access unless they enter acorrect password.

To find out how secure an ebook HTML compiler is, openan ebook on it. While it is open, check the temporarydirectory of your computer. This can usually beaccessed by typing in C:Windowstemp. If you see abunch of files when your ebook is open or running, itmeans that your computer is decompressing the securedata from your ebook before showing the ebook to theviewer. This method is not secure! It means thatanyone with the knowledge of how to access thesetemporary files can steal the secure data and thenthey can fiddle with your ebook to their evil heart'sdesire. Remember, one of the main purposes of buyingand using an HTML compiler is to protect yourproperty.

Next, let's discuss passwords. When trying to choosean ebook Compiler, check out the type of passwordsthat the compiler supports. Almost all compilers offersome kind of password protection that insures that theuser can only access the contents they have purchasedfrom you. However, the best compilers offer variedways to generate different types of passwords. Choosea compiler that gives you the options of secure,user-friendly, and open password generation.

Another important factor when it comes to passwords ishow the compiler generates them. A compiler that hasinternal password protection generation built into thesoftware is more secure than compilers that link tolive Internet password control systems.

Find out if the compiler generates passwords online. If it has this option, it allows you to choose anypayment processing system you want or to do thepayment processing yourself.

Next, look into the size of ebook the compilersupports. The best compilers can create ebooks up to 2GB in size without decompressing the HTML pages orimages to your hard disk. Usually, ebooks that are 2GB in size can easily support 6 GB of compressed data. The catch here is that only text files will generallybe compressible.

You do not want a compiler that decompresses thisamount of data when the user attempts to open yourebook. This would mean that anyone who purchases yourebook will have to wait for all the data to decompressbefore they can access your ebook right afterdownloading it. So look for compilers that onlydecompress temporarily files that are NOT HTML to thelocal hardisk. Non-HTML files include Flash, Word, andAcrobat files. This type of compiler is more secureand certainly faster.

Make sure the compiler you choose is compatible withyour system software. Check out what version ofWindows it requires, and make sure you have thatversion before buying your compiler.

Support issues are extremely important. Choose acompiler that includes an installation program. Thisprogram allows your user to choose a number ofdifferent places on their computer to install theebook, to place a shortcut on their desktop, and toadd the ebook, if they choose, to the Start Programsmenu.

You also want excellent and accessible vendor support.Make sure you can access quick technical support! Atthree o'clock in the morning, this factor will be VERYimportant. Also, check to see the terms of freetechnical support offered. Unlimited technical supportis obviously the best option.

Check to see if the company that puts out the compilersoftware offers a service level agreement. Thisagreement is to assure you of their quality responseto your questions or problems.

A good thing to consider is how long the compiler hasbeen on the market. Usually, the version number willgive you an idea. The longer the program is on themarket, the higher the version number, the more bugshave been worked out.

When choosing an ebook compiler, do not be swayed byincredible promises and dazzling sales copy. Do yourhomework first, and then consider all the above issuesand factors before choosing an ebook compiler.

The Encyclopedia Britannica 2007 Opens to the Web
 Posted by: richie ghaniani | 08/09 2008, 19:48

 Sam Vaknin

The Encyclopedia Britannica 2007 (established in 1768) is again a completely revamped product. The rate of innovation in the last two editions is impressive and welcome. Its interface is intuitive and uncluttered and  it is great fun to use. For instance, it offers a date-based daily selection of relevant information and highly edifying interactive tours of articles and attendant media. The search box is persistent - no need to click on the toolbar's "search" button every time you want to find something in this vast storehouse of knowledge. Moreover, the user can save search results onto handy "Virtual Notecards".

The new Britannica's display is tab-based, avoiding the erstwhile confusing proliferation of new windows with every move. Most importantly, articles appear in full, not in sections. This major improvement facilitates the finding of relevant keywords in and the printing of entire texts. These are only a few of the numerous user-friendly alterations and enhancements. The Britannica seems to have got it entirely right.

Perhaps the most refreshing change is the Britannica's Update Center. Dozens of monthly updates and new, timely articles are made available online (subject to free registration). A special button alerts the user when an article in the base product has been updated. Regrettably, unlike in the Encarta, the updates cannot be downloaded to the user's computer or otherwise incorporated into the vast encyclopedia.

The Britannica provides considerably more text than any other extant encyclopedia, print or digital. But its has noticeably enhanced it non-textual content over the years (the 1994-7 editions had nothing or very little but words, words, and more words): it now boasts more than 17,000 images and illustrations and 700 video and audio clips.

The Britannica fully supports serious research. It is a sober assemblage of first-rate essays, up to date bibliographies, and relevant multimedia. It is a desktop university library: thorough, well-researched, comprehensive, trustworthy.

The Britannica's 80-100,000 articles (depending on the version) are long and thorough, supported by impressive bibliographies, and written by the best scholars in their respective fields. The company's Editorial Board of Advisors reads like the who's who of the global intellectual and scientific community.

The Britannica comes bundled with an atlas (between 1600 and 2530 maps and 287 World data Profiles of individual countries and territories), the Merriam-Webster Dictionary and Thesaurus, classic articles from previous editions, ten yearbooks, an Interactive Timeline, a Research Organizer, and a Knowledge Navigator (a Brain Stormer).

In its new form, the Britannica is as user-friendly as the Encarta. With monthly updates and 3 months of free access to its impressive powerhouse online Web site, it is bound to give the former close competition.

The Britannica is an embarrassment of riches. Users often find the wealth and breadth of information daunting and data mining is fast becoming an art form. This is why the Britannica incorporated the Brain Stormer to cope with this predicament. But an informal poll I conducted online shows that few know how to deploy it effectively.

The Britannica also sports Student and Elementary versions of its venerable flagship product, replete with a Homework Helpdesk - but it is far better geared to tackle the information needs of adults and, even more so, professionals. It provides unequalled coverage of its topics. Ironically, this is precisely why the market positioning of the Britannica's Elementary and Student Encyclopedias is problematic.

The current edition is fully integrated with the Internet. Apart from the updates, it offers additional and timely content and revisions on a dedicated Web site. The digital product includes a staggering number of links (165,808!) to third party content and articles on the Web. The GeoAnalyzer (compares national statistical data and generates charts and graphs) is now Web-based and greatly enhanced.

The Britannica would do well to offer a browser add-on search bar and integrate with desktop search tools from Google, Microsoft, Yahoo, and others. A seamless experience is in the cards. Users must and will be able to ferret content from all over - their desktop, their encyclopedias, and the Web - using a single, intuitive interface.

Some minor gripes:

The atlas, dictionary, and thesaurus incorporated in the Britannica are surprisingly outdated. Why not use a more current - and dynamically updated - offering? What about dictionaries for specialty terms (medical or computer glossaries, for instance)?

Despite considerable improvement over the previous edition, the Britannica still consumes (not to say hogs) computer resource far in excess of the official specifications. This makes it less suitable for installation on older PCs and on many laptops.

The Britannica uses a new graphic and text renderer. On some systemsComputer Technology Articles, the user needs to modify his or her desktop settings to get rid of jagged fonts and blurry photos.

But that's it. Don't think twice. Run to the closest retail outlet (or surf to the Britannica's Web site) and purchase the 2007 edition now. It offers excellent value for money (less than $50) and significantly enhances you access to knowledge and wisdom accumulated over centuries all over the world.
